Camrose Primary’s PE and Sports vision statement
At Camrose, we aim to provide a high quality PE and Sports curriculum which establishes an ethos and environment that allows pupils to demonstrate an ongoing commitment to physical activity, within and outside the curriculum. We recognise the importance of physical education in order to support children’s learning across the curriculum. It also contributes to healthy and active lifestyles, improves emotional well-being, has a positive effect on behaviour and develops key skills such as leadership, confidence, and team building skills. It is our aim to ensure the positive values of sport are intertwined with the school ethos, and help to engage with our wider community including local schools. We can ensure that we meet these aims by placing children at the centre of learning…
We shall do this by:
- inspiring, motivating and challenging pupils of all backgrounds and abilities to develop their skills and knowledge and to reach their full potential.
- promoting healthy outcomes and lifestyles by developing pupils’ understanding of the individual, social, cognitive and kinaesthetic benefits of a wide range of physical activities.
- encouraging an appreciation of the ethos of fair play and responsible behaviour and allowing children to make choices and decisions in a secure, supportive environment.
We shall do this by:

General Information about the ‘Sport Premium’
Primary school PE and sport funding
The government is providing additional funding for sport. This funding - provided jointly by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport - will be allocated to primary school headteachers.
This funding is ring-fenced and therefore can only be spent on provision of PE and sport in schools.
Eligible schools
Funding for schools will be calculated by reference to the number of primary-aged pupils (between the ages of 5 and 11), as recorded in the annual schools census in January 2023.
Purpose of funding
Schools must spend the additional funding on improving their provision of PE and sport, but they will have the freedom to choose how they do this.
Possible uses for the funding might include:
- hiring specialist PE teachers or qualified sports coaches to work with primary teachers when teaching PE
- supporting and engaging the least active children through new or additional Change4Life clubs
- paying for professional development opportunities for teachers in PE and sport
- providing cover to release primary teachers for professional development in PE and sport
- running sport competitions, or increasing pupils’ participation in the School Games
- buying quality assured professional development modules or materials for PE and sport
- providing places for pupils on after school sports clubs and holiday clubs
- pooling the additional funding with that of other local schools.
Accountability
From September 2013, schools will be held to account over how they spend their additional, ring-fenced funding. Ofsted will strengthen the coverage of PE and sport within the 'Inspectors’ handbook' and supporting guidance so that both schools and inspectors know how sport and PE will be assessed in future as part of the school’s overall provision.
One year on, Ofsted will carry out a survey reporting on the first year’s expenditure of additional funding and its impact.
Schools will also be required to include details of their provision of PE and sport on their website, alongside details of their broader curriculum, so that parents can compare sports provision between schools, both within and beyond the school day
